Feed-grade calcium formate (Ca(HCOO)2) is a white crystalline powder derived from formic acid and calcium hydroxide, designed to enhance animal feed efficiency and health. As a pH regulator, it lowers gastric acidity in young animals (e.g., piglets, chicks), promoting digestive enzyme activity and reducing pathogen growth (e.g., E. coli). Its dual role as a calcium supplement (30% Ca content) supports bone development, while the formate anion acts as an energy source and microbial growth promoter.

In swine feed, it improves feed intake and weight gain, especially during weaning stress. For poultry, it enhances nutrient absorption and eggshell quality. Compared to inorganic acids, it offers better thermal stability (resists degradation in feed processing) and less corrosion to equipment. Widely used in premixes and compound feeds, it complies with EU feed additive standards (EC No. 1726/2002) and is favored for its safety, solubility, and cost-effective balance of nutrition and preservation.
